Children are often told they can become anything they desire. They’re told that dreams can become reality. However, the structure of higher education facilities doesn t support a child’s dreams. The dreams of many, not just children, are halted by the current education system of society. People dream of becoming doctors, lawyers, and engineers. Regardless of their ambition, they’ll never be able to accomplish their goals without paying a lot of money. Higher education costs a substantial amount of money across the globe. Additionally, not everyone is able to afford this cost. There are scholarships available to students, but there aren’t enough to support every student who dreams of receiving an education. Moreover, only a select few†¦show more content†¦Attending college seems to bring more problems than rewards. Sara Goldrick-Rab notes how society has changed over the years. She claims that a high school education isn’t enough to prepare people for the current job market (Goldrick-Rab and Andrew). If Tuition was removed or reduced to an amount that everyone could afford, then the number of people attending colleges would increase. Struggling to meet tuition is hard enough, yet a student still has other matters to address to ensure their success. For a student to cover their tuition and student loans, they need to find a job. However, students can’t simply offer up all of their funds to attend college. They need to conserve money in order to cover living expenses. Fran Cubberley, the vice president for enrollment management at Delaware County Community College, points out that the cost of attending college exceeds the cost of tuition (Cubberley 22). As a result, students are stuck with a handful of difficult decisions to cover the additional costs. One choice that a student makes is changing their working status to full-time. Working more hours affects a student’s success in completing their education. If students work on a regular basis and attend school, they’re going to have less available time to study. In addition, students will have less personal time. Fran Cubberley suggests that eve n if community colleges were free, students may not give up working while attending school. Reflection on Professional and Ethical Issues Sample for Students

Question: Discuss about the Reflection on Professional and Ethical Issues. Answer: During practice, it is necessary for the nurses to know the key elements of the professional and ethical issues. The issues may create challenges for the nurses that need to be overcome. According to Wilcoxon, Remley Jr and Gladding (2013, p.21), the nurses need to know about the codes of Ethics for the nurses. Her ethical codes of practice guide the students of bachelors degree to a variety of settings. The code of practice help the nurses to know that how to treat others in the care setting. The main aim of the ethics is to promote the practice safely. This is effective for both the nurses and patients. In view of Scott (2016, p.46), everyone has freedom to make decision regarding their health and others need to respect those decisions. These ethics help to improve the self-confidence of the nurses as well as the patients. The nurses need to focus on the wellbeing of the patients with dignity and respect. During my bachelors degree, when I was recruited to the psychiatric department, I noticed many things. I experienced the mal practice of the ethics. Jonsen, Siegler and Winslade (2015, p.54) mentioned that the nurses need to more polite with the patients and should not mal practice the professional codes of ethics. However, I found that most of nurses do misbehave with the patients who are suffering from dementia. They did not show respect to the patient and did not provide proper caring to the patients. They did not show minimum dignity or respect to the patients. In this case, I felt very awkward to work with them. Masters (2015, p.214) mentioned that in case of health care sector, the communication plays important role. However, the nurses with me did not communicate with the patients properly and most of the time they were busy with their personal interest. These kind of practices are completely different form the ethics and unauthentic as well. I decided to discuss this with my senior subject coordinator. She assured me that she would discuss the matter with the senior medical officers to improve the situation. After few days, the authority called a meeting with us and asked for a training session. During the training session, we have learnt many things about the patient care. In the training session, few of the nurses were warned about their mal practices. However, those nurses did not feel necessity to follow the guidance of the ethics and continued the mal practices. The higher authority dismissed those nurses to improve the situation. The patient with dementia and other mental problems need more attention and caring (Singhapakdi, Rallapalli and Rao 2015, p.269). Therefore, the higher authority decided to place CCRV camera in the wards to observe the behavior of the nurses. After placing the CCTV camera, it was seen that most of the nurses modified their behavior and concentrated on their workings. Strange (2015, p.32) stated that the mental patients cannot communicate properly hence, they cannot express themselves properly. The nurses need to know the verbal and non-verbal communication skills to communicate with the mental patients. After joining the department, I have learnt many things like non-verbal communication skills. I developed my body language and learnt about the sign language to communicate with the patients who are suffering from mental diseases. I try to follow the ethics, which help to understand the authentic and unauthentic practices in nursing. I try to communicate properly with the patient and maintain the dignity. My subject coordinator helped me to develop some skills and techniques to achieve better outcome. In case of health care system and during working in the psychiatric department, I come to know that I need to maintain the confidentiality and obey the Data Protection Act. My subject coordinator advised me to gain the trust of the patient first so t hat he could share his feelings and problems with me properly. She also suggested me to avoid the medication errors that most of the nurses do. Makela and Sampson (2017, p.56) mentioned that the medication errors can be fetal for the patients, hence the nurses need to be more careful during administration of medication. I tried to be more careful during providing the medication as it can affect my career as well. Wrong medication can be dangerous for both the nurses and patients (Cherry and Jacob 2016, p.62). I naturally share the important information of the patients with the family members of the patients and with my senior advisers. DeCamp (2015, p.100) mentioned that it is the responsibility of a nurse to protect the crucial data with confidentiality and should not share them with others. As per the ethics, during working in the health care center, the nurses need to be careful about the patient safety. Hence, I need to be careful about the patient hygiene. I need to sterilize the necessary equipments such as injections on the regular basis. Huston (2013, p.24) mentioned that there are various things that a nurse needs to maintain for the patient hygiene. In need to wash my hands after using the toilet. Moreover, I need to help the patient as well to wash his or her hand every time they use the toilet. I need to help the patient in their personal caring to avoid the infection. The codes of ethics state that it is the responsibility of a nurse to respect the emotion of the patients and protect them from the hazard (Preshaw et al. 2016, p.495). They need to provide quality care to the patients. As a nurse, I need to focus on my career and on the patients. I need to manage the intravenous line and record the details of my patients. It is my duty to help the patients physically and mentally, who needs the physical and mental support. As mentioned by McMenemy, Poulter and Burton (2014, p .36), the patients depends on the nurses mostly therefore they need to provide support to them for the wellbeing. In this respect, I need to mention one of my bad experiences that I faced during working in the ward. On that day, my subject coordinator instructed me to give the injections to the patients. One of a patient was not agreed for the medication and I was trying to inject the injection. In such situation, I lost my patience and tried to administer the injection forcefully, which hurt the patient. This was unethical and my subject coordinator handled the situation very carefully. She advised me to keep patience in such cases and I should not force him for the injection. I needed to relax him at first. She suggested me that if I could not handle the situation, then I need to ask for her help further. I realized that I need to be more firm and polite during working with the dementia patients and do not force them for anything. I have learnt many things during working under my subject coordinator and she helped me much. Brown (2015, p.57) opined that the nurses need to gain knowledge from their experience and put that experience in further cases. I need to respect the patients with dignity as well as the family members of them. It is my responsibility to protect my patients from hazards and problems. As the patient had fear in administration of injection, I need to make him feel comfortable at first and try to teach him the necessity of the injection, which I did not do. I need to remind the experience in future so that I do not face such situation again. I need to learn about the codes of ethics in detail t rectify myself and handle the patients more carefully that will help to grow my career graph. I am improving myself with the time and gaining more knowledge that will help in f uture. I hope can handle the patients in better way in future and will be able to avoid the unethical practices and conflict. After the bachelors degree, I hope can join as a registered nurse in an organization, which is a responsible job. On the basis of above discussion, I can conclude that in nursing the professional codes of ethics play major role. As a student of bachelors degree of nursing, I need to follow the guidelines of the ethics. . These ethics help to improve the self-confidence of the nurses as well as the patients. The nurses need to focus on the wellbeing of the patients with dignity and respect. I should be careful about the patient hygiene and maintain them. I need to be more polite and responsible to the patients. I should not share the confidential data with others without the permission of the patient and family members. It is my responsibility to protect my patients from hazards and problems. I need to provide quality care to the patients and should not do any unethical practice that can harm my career. I should maintain the equality and reduce the practice of biasness. References: Brown, G., 2015. Had more sense. Whether his neighbors were cool or Essay Example For Students

Had more sense. Whether his neighbors were cool or Essay not was notreally the point; Derek was a private person and did not like tofeel that his comings, goings, and doings were known to justanyone. Oddly enough, Derek could justify the volume of hismusic because it served to mask his personal actions. He lookedat Arthur who was eyeing him, fists on hips, with a sardonicgrin. Derek ignored it. You want some? he said. It was moreof a statement than a question; Arthur was an avid smoker of theHerb. Sure, if you havent already smoked it all. Arthur wastrying to joke, but Derek suddenly did not feel like responding. He was vaguely aware that he was not being very friendly, butArthurs exhuberance was suddenly bothering him. Only a coupleof minutes ago Derek felt excited about Arthur. But now Arthursenergy, as much of it as there was, seemed stale. Derek disappeared into his darkened bedroom and pretended toroot around, trying to clear his head. Im just being moody, hethought. I cant relate to him cause hes not stonedyet!Derek soon emerged carrying a bag of green powder and a packet ofrolling papers. He did not look at Arthur, but went into thelivingroom and turned on the lamp in the corner. He left thecandle burning and turned down the music a touch. Then he setabout rolling a joint. Arthur surveyed Dereks livingroom with his permanentlycurious eye. It was rather bare: there were only a few printshanging up to take away the starkness of the white walls, and thefurniture was limited to a coffee table, a few chairs and abeanbag scattered over the cheap indoor/outdoor carpeting on thefloor. Hasnt changed since the last time I was here, hethought. Arthur liked to spend a lot of time making his place ashomey as possible. When he saw the lighted candle, Arthur raisedan eyebrow, and he began to wonder. To Arthur, the use of marijuana was a social thing, anexperience to be shared with others. He did not understand howDerek could sit all by himself in the dark, alone with hisswirling and scattered thoughts. That was because, though hewould never have admitted it, Arthur was afraid of his thoughts. Despite his boisterous, energetic and positive front, deep downArthur did not trust himself, and his thoughts and desires oftenhaunted him. He tried to drown them out with constant movementand action, and the idea that Derek was doing what he dared notdo made him worried. He did not realize that Derek was even moreuncomfortable among his peers, when stoned, than when he wasalone. Arthur crossed the room and turned down the music so hecould talk to his friend. He was trying to think of what to sayto get Derek to leave with him, to get out of these oppressivesurroundings. So whats new, Bud? he asked. Derek did not look up fromthe floor where he was carefully rolling the joint. Not much, he said in an uncommunicative tone. Derek heldthe joint up to the light and eyed his handiwork critically. Satisfied, he set about rolling another. He was preparing to bein a better mood, but he wanted a few moments to think aboutsomething else entirely. Arthur, knowing his friend well, recognized this and kept silent. Scanning the room he noticed apencil and notepad on the coffee table in front of him. Curiousas always, Arthur reached for it and saw that it was covered withwandering doodles and almost illegible scrawls. .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c , .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .postImageUrl , .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c , .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c:hover , .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c:visited , .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c:active { border:0!important; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c:active , .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uff76c98e2b2961cfa8c168ba229a586c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Christianity EssayDerek was aware of Arthurs movements. Im glad because Im given opportunity to give a speech here in this very morning. My speech is about pro wrestling, whether they are real or they are Just a show. We will write a custom essay sample on Pro Wrestling or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Around half century ago, there were few shows founded. One of them is World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which is now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which is now the biggest show. This show was founded by Vince J. McMahon and Toots Mondt. WWE has 4 shows recently, Monday Night Raw LIVE on the USA network 9/8 pm, Tuesday Night NXT on Sci Fi network 10/9 pm, Thursday Night Superstars on WGN America network 8/9 pm, Friday Night Smack down on my Network TV 8/9pm. Monday Night Raw Just reached 900th episode at 30 August 2010. Research shows that, Monday Night Raw had won some sports tv like ESPN, Fox Sports, NBA, NASCAR and many more. In my opinion, professional wrestling is Just a show. There are reasons why I felt so; professional wrestling are scripted and the matches are predetermined. Winner or loser of the match is already decided before the match starts. Professional wrestlers also practice the in-ring action before the match starts. They have to practice to slam opponent but no to hurt the opponent, who is very difficult and need to practise a lot. There are storyline for professional wrestling. Crowds like the storyline more than the wrestling itself. Thats why they buy the merchandise to show how they support the professional wrestlers. However, some of the professional wrestler bleeds during the match. This is real, but this is caused by accident; they really do hit each other. PROS The very first thing you need to understand about professional wrestling is that its fake. I hope that Im not ruining anyones fun here, but all those professional wrestlers are Just some great actors. All matches are predetermined and scripted months before by bookers, which means some matches are already decided which wrestler become the good guy and which wrestler become the bad guy. Even the behind-the-scenes action or in-the-ring action are predetermined, and the wrestlers develop their own characters according the script by the help of the writers and executives. For an example, a wrestler switches allegiances or team up against a third party based on the storyline. Audience often shocked by the reaction of the wrestler, thanks to the creative writer of the script. One professional wrestler may have many characteristics, depending on which script they in. They wrestle out of their own personalities, which is why they are actors. The storylines are more interesting than wrestling itself for some of the fans. The effectiveness of storylines to enhance interest in professional wrestling was proved. Like I mentioned above, Monday Night Raw had Just reached 900th episode and it had been a better show than some other sports channel! Mr McMahon called this as sports entertainment. It is indeed an entertainment, because professional wrestlers are not engaged in a competition, since the outcome of the matches are already decided; crowd are aggressive nowadays, so it is entertaining for them, as the storyline is as absurd as the soap theatre. Professional wrestler is not an easy Job: they have to be athletes, performer, stunt- ability to heal from the injuries faster than normal person, they must also not let those injuries visible to the crowd. It is never easy to become a professional wrestler nd it takes time. Things like how to land punches, how to slam your opponent, how to fall so that you wont get injured, how execute wrestling moves properly and make them look like real, and that entire sort of thing; it takes time to master those things. For an example, Piledriver, one of the wrestling moves, they have to hold their opponent higher than their knees, so that the force of the moves is on the knees, and not on his opponents head. If you ever tried to execute wrestling moves at home, you may have broken someone elses neck! Although the outcome of the matches are always predetermined, but thing is not always goes perfectly as planned. For sure, good wrestlers can improvise what happens during the match. Some matches are practiced move by move, but most just the outcome and some major happenings decided earlier. For example, two wrestlers might go into a match knowing which of them will win, who will start out dominant, which will interfere in the match, and what move will finish off the loser. In accordance with the wrestlers skill, they will make up the rest of the match as they go along. They generally cooperate to make the match become better and look good, and they often whisper moves to each other during the match. Crowds are easily influenced by this storyline based professional wrestling. They will threat some of the professional wrestlers as their idol and keep cheering for them for anything those professional wrestlers do. Here are the business tricks; they sell professional wrestlers merchandise. To show how much they love and support for their idol, crowds will buy the merchandise. Not only merchandise, professional wrestling also have magazine. People who love wrestling will subscribe to the magazine. Professional wrestler will also interact with their fans. This is how they earn profit from the crowds. This shows that professional wrestling are Just like a show. However, it is real when wrestlers bleed. They rarely use fake blood. They always use razor blade to cut themselves when it is time for them to bleed. This usually occurs when his opponent executed finishing move on himself. When he cut himself, is it called blading while when he bleeds, it is called Juicing. When a wrestlers pponent executed finishing move, he will quickly cut himself across the forehead, which will produce enough blood to give him a convincingly battered appearance. But if they cut themselves anywhere else, it would be extremely dangerous. Sometimes they bleed from actually contact. Even they try to pull their punches, accidents will also happen as they really do hit each other. They called this bleeding as hardwaY. Professional wrestling is Just a show, it is not reality. But it is still an entertaining show though professional wrestling is fake in most way.

John Locke

John Locke John Locke Reading through John Lockes Second Treatise, The Declaration of Independence, Martin Luther King Letter from Birmingham Jail, Karl Marx The Communist Manifesto, E Fromms Escape from Freedom, Thomas Mores Utopia, Henry David Thoreaus Walden there comes an almost universal viewpoint that the nature has its state and then there is the law of nature. The state of nature is in discord with the law of nature. The law of nature comes out as the closest approximation of the ideal world that we should all live in and which all these writers seem to push for in their struggles whether as pastor, as in Martin Luther or as a writer as in Thoreau. The state of nature is different. It is what it is as we see it. There is social injustice about and men of convictions can only but rise up and fight to restore the world to its law of nature. According to Fromm, although man is born a freak of nature, he has to find principles to replace instincts, and control it as per his wishes. He has to try and overcome all conditions that are negative like death, starvation, disease etc through his action and decision. Like the rest, he sees that humanitys true nature is freedom. Martin Luther King sees lots of double standards and superficiality when he looks at issues from the state of nature perspective. The state of nature in his time is that there is a sweltering injustice against the people of colour but this is happening in society where Christianity is the main religion. Rather than Christianity, the clergy railing about this injustice, they look the other way. They do not want to confront the real issue probably for fear of being associated with violence. But Martin Luther opposes this kind of religious bastardisation when he seeks through non violence movement to demonstrate that religion must be concrete, at the service of man according to the law of nature. It should press for equality and justice for Gods children because that is what the law of nature is. The current state where people are segregated, and wallow in injustice does not represent the law of nature but the state of nature. To him, there is a yawning gap between the state of nature a nd the law of nature as per the conditions. When he tries through non-violent struggles; he is trying to bring the law of nature into concretization. The true nature is when freedom is had. Similarly, Thoreau, through his staying in the pond experiences nature in its true self, the law of nature. He escapes the state of nature where there is rigid and an economic system so exploitative. The state of nature is enslaving instead of freeing us. Its civilization does not make us better people but instead it enslaves and degrades us. His escape to the pond is a desire to live as per the law of nature. Karl Marx also espouses the same view that human existence is haunted by a spectre of exploitation, internecine class struggles but each time there is the majority suffering and a few enjoying. The majority proletariat and the minority, who own the property and the means of societys production the bourgeois class subjects the rest of humanity to sub human conditions. Even the family is like that, so materialistic and intended for exploitation and not succor. That is the state of nature-quite convoluted. The proposal of the Communism manifesto is thus a sentimental wish to retur n to life as per the law of nature-where resources are to be used for the common good. No private property, no exploitation, no classes and no struggles. That will be the nature according to law of God. In all the writings, the issue of God comes out as one who stands where justice is. In Martin Luthers case, God is not the religion but where there is justice and fairness, God is the supreme good. We see that God can be fought for, if need be. Thomas More through his writings and activities appears so harsh to those who have a dim view of God, that even he is accused of have taken part in the persecution of the heretics. The idea of God as conceptualized by Erich Fromm is no different. He sees God as the ultimate being, that all temporal lifestyles should reflect respect for God. In Mores utopia, that there is no place for Atheists suggests that absence of God is unacceptable. He must be there, everywhere. The idea of natural rights comes out clearly in Karl Marxs works just as in Lockes and Thoreaus works as well as in Fromms. All people have a right to personal freedom that is so majestic, real and liberating than the freedom offered by governments. Waldens escape to the pond where he lives in freedom and Mores Utopian portrayal reflects that men are in bondage and their wish is to live in freedom some day where the natural rights apply. Locke sees that written law should be positive and this can only be through a legitimate democratic set up. That this should not necessarily be the law to control us but that we should be ready to control ourselves with laws that are human but not necessarily written seems to be the suggestion of Fromm. The idea of social contract comes out in mixed shades from the various writers. Locke sees constitutions in a democracy as social contracts between the governed and the institutions in place to govern them. When people in subordinate themselves into social contract, the cede some of their personal freedoms for greater good. Some of the individuals natural rights are ceded in the fulfillment of social contract. The civil state is beholden to the people and is charged to the protection of property and civil liberties. The civil state should also have power over the people. In Lockes civil state, the natural rights form the basis of laws. But it can be overthrown if it ceases to serve the people. Martin Luther seems to present a related argument when he urges civil disobedience for the people of colour to protest an unjust law and government that does not protect all. Even if legitimate, it can be opposed by all means so that it stops its excesses. Henry Thoreau also concurs that higher laws take precedence over human laws. It is human to treat some people with indifference and unjustly but higher laws demand that all be treated equally. It thus in a way seems to suggest that what is human is moral and should be upheld at all costs. The civil state should serve the interest of the people who have willingly instituted it. The individual on his part has his natural rights but also has his social obligations. The individual may not necessarily act always according to the natural rights but will have to insubordinate themselves to society. Acting according to individual right and in pursuit of natural law might lead to coalition with the civil authorities at times as we see in Walden. Fromm argues that truly, each person is a unique individual, separate from the rest, but that does not make one to live individualistic life but they should overcome their separatedness, and join the rest. One would only be schizophrenic if they just lived in the world according to their own thoughts, feelings and needs. Thoreau however affirms that society and its laws oppress the individual. The idea of community is extensively explored in Karl Marxs work. The society should ideally live a communist lifestyle where all are equal and no one has claim to private property. On communistic set up only brings conflicts and bleeds resentment from the vast marginalized sections of society. The end result will be a revolution where the oppressed will seek to restore communism. When Martin Luther King claims that it will be great that day even the whites will support the people of colour to fight unjust laws suggests that a community is important in enforcing a natural law. Fromm suggests that we have to try and overcome our awareness of our separateness by trying to come closer to each other in what he calls need for relatedness. This is his thesis that men should live as a community. But Waldens escape to the pond shows a community can even be found in the nature and one can just be as happy within it. Failure to overcome our separateness and join others according to Fromm is in fantile narcissm which is a trait that cannot support a communal existence. There is a way in which the idea of common good is looked at by the various writers.Locke, Fromm, Karl Marx, and Martin Luther openly affirm the idea of the common good. That everything should be for the common good including laws, religion, and production systems. In Martin Luthers case, Christianity seems not to be for the common good as it is in his society, what with double standards and convoluted interpretations of the gospel by whites? In Karl Marxs case, the social and economic set up should be violently altered to suit all or for the common good. The bourgeois only exploit the proletariat and by the former hoarding wealth, they use it selfishly while it should be for common good. This is the sentimental state More would like to see in Utopia where everything including land is used for common good. By suggesting personal wandering in the Pond, Thoreau seems to be suggesting the need for one to escape to a world without fetters where they will live richly. The idea of the majority unfortunately ending up overriding the minority is expressed variously. Locke affirms that the majority take sway over minority in politics. Mores utopian existence shows everything should be used for the utility of the majority and not for the individual. But as Thoreau shows, the majority can be oppressive to the individual. Society is seen as a conspiracy against manhood. In Mores work, Karl Marxs work and John Lockes work, property is to be used for all. Karl Marx sees that property should not be held by individuals but by all. Mores Utopia affirms this to be the ideal society as property will benefit all. Thoreau sees that no good life can come out of a life where one is working for others, for perpetuation of private property. The issue of freedom is explored at length. Martin Luther sees freedom as the acme of humanity, justice should be there for all and the quest for it has never been easy with those seeking for it ending up being branded extremists. For More, there can never be freedom which allows people to denounce God.For Fromm, freedom should be backed by reason and buttressed by morality. The modern world seems to allow unconventional freedoms. One cannot claim freedom when they are breaking moral laws. For Karl Marx, freedom will be had with the removal of the unjust system that exploits the working class. Money is also viewed as the cause of exploitation of others especially by Karl Marx. Wealth should be for all including money. In martin Luther King, the idea of protest by not buying from all malls suggests that his views are that money should be used to pursue justice and should be morally used. Putting your money to the oppressor only allows him wield more power to exploit you. Thoreau sees money may not be the ultimate requirement to buy happiness but happiness can be got in simple life forms. Fromm asserts that money should never be hoarded, just like all other wealth forms although the modern world seems to gravitate towards that.

Mussolini and Matteotti Crisis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Mussolini and Matteotti Crisis - Essay Example He was executed on April 28, 1945 in Milan, Italy when economic depression and military failures in World War II led to his ousting and subsequent persecution. (Benito Mussolini, 2003; Benito Mussolini, 2007; Benito Mussolini) Mussolini began his political career when he became editor to Milan socialist paper "Avanti!" in 1911. A gifted orator and writer, Mussolini was brought to the notice of the socialist movement when he was arrested and imprisoned for leading demonstrators protesting the attack by the Italians on Libya. Under socialist concepts, war was merely a way for the rich to get richer at the expense of the common worker. Under his editorship, the newspaper gained popularity. (Benito Mussolini, 2007) Five months into World War I, however, Mussolini had a change of attitude, regarding war as an opportunity, and for this the socialist party expelled him. In August 1915, Mussolini answered his country's call to arms. In 1917, a mortar bomb signalled his discharge from the army with the rank of corporal. (Benito Mussolini, 2007) Mussolini developed a political ideology to tie in support of his group, later to be known as Fascism because he named the group Fasci di Combattimento or League for Combat. He was not the first to use the word fasci but his party was the most identified with it. (Rise of Mussolini: to 1922, 2006) World War I threw Italy into an economic crisis and the country was in turmoil. In response, Mussolini formed the National Fascist Party in 1919 and people looked to him to bring order into chaos. He formed the Black Shirt militia, officially the squadre d'azione but popularly described as armed thugs that used violence against all who opposed the Fascist party with special preference for socialist, communists and democrats, and little opposition from authorities. (Rise of Mussolini: to 1922, 2006) In 1921, Mussolini and 35 other fellow Fascists became members of the Italian Chamber of Deputies. (Benito Mussolini, 2003) This was partly due to a coalition Mussolini forged with then Prime Mi nister Gioletti, who sought to restore authority over the Italian citizenry, which he promptly broke as soon as he gained membership. (Rise of fascism in Italy under Mussolini, 2007) The Pacification Pact between Mussolini and the socialists in Parliament was an attempt to forge an alliance, but this was strongly opposed by the radical members of the Party, the squadristi, especially by their leaders, the ras. Attempts to disband the squadristi failed and the pact was dissolved. (March on Rome, 2007) The March on Rome and Military Loyalty The ruling Leftist party initiated a general strike against the Fascists in August 1922, and Mussolini saw his opportunity for his party to grab power. Mussolini counted on the indecisiveness of the Italian government under Prime Minister Luigi Facta and the growing discontent of the citizenry to hedge his gamble. He threatened a march to Rome of 40,000 strong Black Shirts, ostensibly as an intervention necessary to uphold a weak government as solidified by its failure to the secure the Italian-speaking town of Fiume as due recognition for the contributions of Italy to World

Education Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 3

Education - Research Paper Example Although each of the strategy is unique and friendly to the user, a number of difficulties isalso evident while implementing them. Advantages of reading strategies Teachers should design and teach the different strategies to encourage students in the classroom. In most cases, students can become highly frustrated when they fail to understand the content of what they could be reading. This might discourage them but using the correct strategies to counter the problem, the students are able to get back on track before giving up on reading (Buel, 2009). It is critical that teachers be knowledgeable of the students’ progress and the most appropriate tactics to apply in different situations to help students repair their reading comprehension. It is evident that reading strategies, such as DRTA, are quite helpful to struggling readers who make use of prediction for scaffolding. Predicting before reading which makes use of the cover or the title of the book being read, helps students to make verifications after reading subsequent sections. The students focus on the reading since they have a goal identified when they start to read (Buehl, 2009). This helps them to better understand the passage. It has also become clear that reading strategies allow students to use art as one way to improve their comprehension. This is better elaborated by the visual imagery that allows students to visualize a passage as they read. This is an important strategy since teaching students how to develop mental picture while reading also increases recall, predicting of what would come next and making inference. To enhance this, the teacher should draw pictures of what is being read (Buehl, 2009). This helps learners to follow the imagery besides how it represents what is being read. Another benefit of reading strategies on the learning process is that they provide an effective way to activate learners’ prior knowledge of the topic being taught. This helps them to think about som e experiences they can easily relate to when reading (Buehl, 2009). This enables the student to better understand everything they read with ease. It also increases the pace of reading, since they do not have to pause now and then, trying to understand the content. The students are also able to expand their knowledge and interest on a particular issue beyond what is learnt in the classroom since they can always make inferences in what they experience in day-to-day activities from what they read. These encourage them to learn and end up being knowledgeable on the subject. When the learners improve their interest on the subject being learnt, the teachers can easily drive instructions, as they are able to focus on what students are curious about. These benefits are realized where KWL chart is highly used. The students also become independent readers when they learn how to apply these strategies. This way the students are able to understand the written word for their own benefits as well as to the teachers. Teaching a highly attentive class with students who easily understand what they are taught becomes easy for the teacher and saves time taken to cover any particular subject. Disadvantages of the Reading strategies As much as the pre-reading, guided reading, and post reading have resulted to increased levels of comprehension among learners, a number of shortcomings is experienced while implementing them. The ultimate

Iron production in sudan Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Iron production in sudan - Essay Example Providing a great opportunity for investors. According to a recent KPMG report, the continuing global urbanization is set to drive the demand of steel, effectively doubling it by 2050 and at the current level of demand the iron ore reserves in Brazil’s Minas Gerias and Australia’s Pilbara will generally be exhausted by then. It is predicted that as the world gradually runs out of hematite deposits, there will spring the need for new sources of iron. One of countries that is seen to offer an amazing opportunity for the iron ore industry. Sudan’s full iron ore production potential has never been fully exploited nor has it been completely analyzed but its location next to Congo and the iron ore reserves that are already being mined have shown promising results. By investing in Sudan’s iron ore industry, investors from the GCC stand to reap immense benefits from the virgin iron ore industry in the country Resources In a study conducted by Waldelnour, et al. (2 010), both the Western and Eastern parts of Khartoum have relatively rich iron ore deposits. The type of iron ore deposits that is seen to be available in these areas is generally found in the Mesozoic and especially so in the Upper Cretaceous. This iron ore is generally characterized by having a relatively high tonnage, in addition to its low-grade quality. However it is quite possible that if the country’s investment policy were to be reviewed so as to essentially favor investment in the iron and steel industry, this could have the potential resultant effect of entirely revolutionizing the steel industry in the country especially so in light of the fact that these deposits tend to cover vast expanses of land (Waldelnour, et al., 2010, pg. 2). Sudan’s rich mineral resources: Sudan’s rich mineral that could possibly be exploited by investors includes: According to Mann & Mendenhall, (1964), the Geological Department in Sudan published the Fodikwan Iron Deposits. Sudan’s Fodikwan group of deposits are found to be mainly located at approximately 21?-45’ N. latitude and between 36 ? -45’ E. Longitude this region is found to be in the areas around the north Red Sea Hills areas of the country, at an approximate distance of about nine miles inland from its Port Sudan-Halaiba Road. This is an estimated distance of about 167 miles from the country’s Port Sudan. The nearest harbor that can service any transportation of these iron ore resources is found to be at Marob, which is at a distance of approximately 12 miles from these deposits. It would be necessary for the country to develop a Jetty to support the loading of ships with the processed iron, steel or iron ore that has been mined from this region. The report also indicated that the iron deposits in the country can essentially be divided into the two categories of solid ore which is seen to constitute about 147,000 metric tons of relatively accessible ore containing about 60%Fe, while the mixed ore deposits were estimated to stand at 95,000 tons with an

Some of the main Streaming Sites or Apps are Spotify, Pandora and Apple Music. With these streaming sites, many of the CEOs believe that their apps have helped the music industry from going into a decline in most of its sales. Or Artists believe it is helping the profile platform for Musicians. He also states Its a choice for the fan to be part of, its a choice for the artists who are involved in making their music available on streaming services. Its a choice by the record companies that represent the artist. Fifteen years ago those choices didnt exist.(BBC news) But besides all these Positives there have been many negative remarks on the topic. When Apple music did their 3-month free trial, the apple artist wasnt actually getting paid for the music that the members were streaming. Which has made a contribute to Taylor Swift pulling her music off of Apple music because of a high based disagreement over payment. Payment is also a factor that most people disagree with when it comes to Spotify or Apple Music. When a some is played on Spotify it has to be running for more than 30secs for the artist to get paid which can go from $0.004 for the smaller artist to $0.0084 for the well-known artist. The Zipper :: essays research papers

The zipper is a very common fastener used to secure all kinds of things, especially clothing. But the zipper wasn't always around. Before the zipper was invented, buttons were used in fastening clothes, and so were hooks and eyes that had to be fastened manually. When the zipper first came out, it was somewhat of an oddity; it wasn't widely accepted. But slowly, more and more people started noticing its convenient applications, and soon it could be seen everywhere. The zipper started off as a novelty, and because of its convenience, it is now a necessity. The first zipper was invented by Whitcomb Judson. He devised it to do up boots, and got the device patented on August 29, 1893. He called it the "clasp locker". The clasp locker was much bulkier than the zipper we know today. It was a series of two rows of hooks and eyes that could be fastened by a "slider" (which was the most important part of Judson's invention). Another big difference from today's zipper is that after zipping up the fastener, the slider would detach right off the garment. Then to open the clasp locker, the slider would be re-attached at the top of the locked clasps, upside down, and then pulled down.About a year after the patents were issued, a close friend of Whitcomb Judson, named Harry Earle, and a lawyer named Lewis Walker met up with Judson, and they formed the Universal Fastening Company. They weren't very successful. One of the main reasons was that the clasp locker didn't work very well. The fastener frequently jammed, and easily rusted. But in April of 1896, some Post Office Department representatives went to the company and inspected the Judson fastener on a mailbag and pronounced it satisfactory. Twenty mailbags equipped with the fasteners were ordered. That was one of the first orders Universal Fastening Company got, and it wasn't repeated. It's assumed that the mailbags were discarded due to faulty fasteners. While Judson tried to improve his fastener, the company struggled to get customers. But soon they weren't so worried about trying to sell it, and more worried about finding useful applications for it. In early promotion, it was described as a "20th century device". Also "remarkable in its simplicity, rapidity, security, utility". The fastener would be shown applied to skirt plackets, gloves, corsets, boots, shoes, and leggings. A little later in the decade, Judson came up with a new separable fastener, called the C-curity fastener, although its patent wasn't issued until 1905.

A Guide to Disciplinary Probation

A Guide to Disciplinary Probation Disciplinary probation is the term many schools use to indicate a student or student organization has engaged in unacceptable behavior, according to an institutions student handbook or code of conduct. This is also known as college probation, probation, or a probation warning but is different than academic probation. Schools often let students or student organizations on disciplinary probation remain at the school during a probationary period, as opposed to suspending or expelling them. How to Respond to Probation If youve been placed on probation, its important to be very clear on 1) what caused your probation, 2) how long your probation will last, 3) what you need to do to get off of probation, and 4) what happens if you break your probation rules. Ideally, your school will provide all this information when your school notifies you about being placed on probation, as well as whom to contact with any questions. Additionally, its important to make sure you find positive support systems and stay away from situations that might, even by chance, lead you to a probation violation. Disciplinary probation often requires students to remain free from any kind of disciplinary trouble during a predetermined time period. For example, a student on probation for violating residence hall rules must not have any other disciplinary problems in the hall. If that student violates their probation, they may face more severe consequences, like suspension or expulsion, which can hinder progress toward graduation. In the case of an organization on probation, the school may further restrict its activities, cut off its funding, or force it to disband if the group violates probation. Probationary periods can be anything from a few weeks to an entire semester or academic year. Impact on Transcripts Policies vary by school, but your disciplinary probation could show up on your transcript. As a result, your probation could have an effect on any future activity that requires you to present your transcript, like if youre transferring to a different college or applying to graduate school. Youll want to check with your school, but in many cases, the probation note will only show up on your transcript during your probation period. If you make it through probation without violating its terms, the note should be removed. However, if probation leads to suspension or expulsion, its likely to remain a permanent part of your transcript. Can I Get out of Probation? Again, youd need to check your schools policies, but if you feel you dont deserve to be put on disciplinary probation, you may be able to fight it. See if theres a way to appeal the decision. If thats not an option, ask if theres anything you can do to shorten the probationary period. Beyond that, your best course of action may be to ride out the probation period with patience and good behavior. Once youve done whats required of your probation terms, your transcript will likely show no record of it. Of course, just because its not on your transcript doesnt mean your school forgets about it. You probably have a disciplinary record, as well, so youll want to avoid getting in trouble again, because you may face harsher consequences the next time youre cited for unacceptable behavior.

Utilitarian and Hedonic Needs Essays

Utilitarian and Hedonic Needs Essays Utilitarian and Hedonic Needs Paper Utilitarian and Hedonic Needs Paper Utilitarian aspect of an attitude toward a behavior relates to usefulness, value, and intelligence of the behavior as perceived by the consumer. Hedonic aspect relates to pleasure experienced or anticipated from the behavior. Utilitarian product The utilitarian product that I choose would be a Honda Accord. This product is utilitarian because it is offered at an affordable price. The car gets great gas mileage and the dealership offers great financing so that you are able to afford it. Hedonic product The hedonic product that I choose is the Mini Cooper. I am choosing this product because I can choose the color that I want and the style of the Mini Cooper. Also I choose this product because of the dimensions and cargo space that it offers. The Honda website shows at least ten different models and the pricing on each one. The Honda website also shows how you can build and price your own Honda so it can have all the features that you want. You have the option of selecting your own color and add on accessories to the car, such as sunroof, 6 disc cd changer and a consumer can also choose if they want to have alloy wheels on the car. It also shows how many people can be seated in the car and how many miles you get to a gallon, which most of the cars on the website range from 25 miles per gallon all the way up to 44 miles per gallon. With gas being at an all time high, that would definitely be a great factor to look at if a consumer was purchasing a car. The website also lets you know which car is the most fuel efficient and it shows cars that they use, which have an alternative to using fuel. As a consumer, you have many features to choose from and options to decide between before making a decision on what car you want. The Mini Cooper has a lot to offer. It is small and efficient to fit any consumer’s needs. They offer Sirius XM Satellite Radio with a 1 year subscription and they also offer HD radio technology. The car offers either a 6-speed Getrag transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. They offer the hardtop, the convertible, the coupe and also the John Works models. The Mini Cooper website states that it offers 488 miles per tank, which is a great feature and I don’t think any consumer could turn away from that feature because every American wants to save money and by offering the Mini Cooper with such good gas mileage, it would make the average consumer look at this vehicle twice. It also offer an active safety feature that keeps you from having an accident and it meets the passive safety features, which offers an ultra rigid body, 6 airbags with side protection, crash sensor system and an engine immobilizer. The Mini Cooper also has a suggested retail price starting at $20,200, which is really great for all the features that it offers. Fuel, safety, and performance with this car are all positive features to make a consumer want to purchase the Mini Cooper. Honda. Shop for Honda. (2012). Lecture review Movie Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Lecture - Movie Review Example Judaism has and continues to be the true identity of a Jew despite it just being a religion which over time has closely intertwined with their culture and to a greater degree act as a seam that holds the whole nation of Israel together. Most notably is the role of Judaism in legalizing or illegalizing certain food components and at the same time determining the calendar used in that part of the world despite the rest of the world use of a totally different system. In addition, the preservation of the Hebrew language is mainly attributed to ardent following of Judaism. In as much as Judaism continues to be a pillar of the Jews in more ways than one, it cannot be referred to as an ethnicity due to the fact that there have been new converts from other ethnic groups who have embraced Judaism despite it having arisen from Jews who are a single ethnic group. In their practice of monotheism to God, the Jews offer their service to God through adhering to the commandments set out in the five law books, academia, prayer and supplication in a bid to remain faithful to the commandment they made with God. Contrary to a host of numerous world religions, Judaism is unique in the sense that it does not impose its beliefs on a population for them to acquire redemption. Rather, Judaism requires its followers and would be potential followers to practice Judaism as opposed to just confessing by word. The religion accepts new converts following adequate discernment by well-versed Judaism leaders and spiritual directors. The credible and approved source of Judaic teachings is the Bible that is composed of the Five Law books written by Moses. Historical books about the rich history of the Jews. The Prophetic books which provide God’s promises of the thing to come and the writings from prominent and inspired leaders of the former time who in a way shaped their destiny. In addition to the Bible, there exist other sources of religious teachings. These are the total of six volumes of debated and approved Jewish legislations, customs to be followed by every Jew as well as the laws to govern them called the Mishnah. The other source is the Gemara which is a record of debates from former rabbis, conversations and commentaries by the then teachers of law. In essence the two additional reference documents are referred to as the Talmud, which has continued over time to be an authority in as far as teaching Judaism is concerned. The daily life of a practicing Jew is centered on the family and it generally includes prayers, which are carried out at tree specific times of day in accordance with the teachings – morning time, in the afternoon, and at as the sun sets.(Kalmin et al, 2003) This is blended by communal times of worship, the religious observances that are held in the synagogues which are their sacred places of worship and are conducted by a rabbi, a cantor or a knowledgeable member of the congregation or a well schooled religious teacher who has atten ded a religious Jewish formation house. Current issues in dissability studies activity 12 Essay

Current issues in dissability studies activity 12 - Essay Example t for successful transition, because an individual may perform better in one environment than the other; and the transition to adulthood encompasses several factors outlined above (Lones, 1997). However, some assessments are required to ascertain the level of individual involvement in the process; the level of parental involvement; the level of school involvement and the extent of involvement of other inter-agencies. When all these issues have been analyzed, it is possible to determine how successful the transition will be. The process of inclusion can depend on how much usefulness the disabled person to the society. If the person has acquired good education, such a person could be included in the working environment where such knowledge would be utilized. The person may also be included in the community activities. But when such an assessment has not been properly made, it may be difficult for the individual to be fully included in the society. Answer 2: There are certain issues that all parties (parents, schools, agencies etc) involved in helping a disabled individual undergo transition must take note of: (i) the individual must be given full support during the transition stage; (ii) the individual must be assessed periodically about the level of knowledge acquisition; (iii) the society must be patient for the individual to demonstrate his or her capability, which will encourage smooth inclusion; (iv) the individual must be encouraged at every stage of the transition and inclusion. Once the issues highlighted above have been taken good care of, the inclusion of such an individual in community activities, working environments, educational setting, and other places, would be smooth and

History of civil rights movement Essay Example for Free

History of civil rights movement Essay Civil rights movement can be described as the non violent protests against something that the public feels does not auger well with them. Dierenfield, (2004, pp 23) differentiates civil liberties and civil rights by describing the former as entailing the right of every citizen to receive fair treatment from his government whereas the latter, he says involves citizens gunning for fair treatment from their fellow citizens and local authorities. Therefore, civil rights can also be described as social rights. However, the mammoth effects of the civil rights movement against slavery and the more conspicuous civil movements against racial segregation have taken credit for defining the term. This paper discusses the civil rights movement in the US by tracing its history, the key leaders involved and how their activities influenced the American government of the time. History of civil rights movement Civil rights movement are most famous in the US between 1955 and 1965 where there happened numerous historical accounts led by civil rights leaders protesting against racial segregation in the US more so in the south. The leaders were mainly black who were protesting against mistreatment by their white counterparts who by then treated them as second class citizens. Key activists Martin Luther King This is definitely one of the most renowned African American leaders in fighting for equal rights for African Americans living in the US who were mainly descendants of early slaves. He is most remembered for leading the Montgomery bus boycott among other protests. This Montgomery bus boycott is recorded to have officially started on 1st December 1955. The boycott involved the black American living in that area boycotting using the city buses unless they were allowed to sit anywhere they wanted to sit in the bus instead of the area specifically set out for the blacks. The boycotts were triggered by the arrest of one woman Rosa Park who had defied giving up her sit to a white person in the bus. Having the fronts seats reserved for whites sonly, Rosa Parks defied the order o give up her seat and was subsequently arrested for that. Rosa Parks This is one woman who the US congress came to nickname the â€Å"mother of modern-day civil rights movements† (Boyd, et al 2004, pp 125). As said above, her defiance into giving in to mistreatment in the public transport system triggered the massive boycotts which were to last more than a year until their pleas were heard. Her arrest was even against t the law which she claimed to have observed. A 1900 law on segregation in the buses by race allowed the setting up of specific areas for blacks and whites in the bus but did not give specifications as to force one to vacate his/her seat for another in case there were no more seats. However, custom and culture and mis-configured the law and interpreted it for the benefits of the whites. Park was charged in a court of law and was found guilty but some of her friends bailed her out (Boyd, 2004, pp 125). The same friends who bailed Park out formed an organization by the name Montgomery Improvement Association to spearhead the boycotts and among the leaders was Martin Luther King Jr. Black churches were used in communicating about the boycott which was to last exactly 381 days. The public transport buses stood idle as 75% of the commuters had decide to either walk or used blacks operated taxis (Dierenfield, 2004, pp 23). The bus companies were making losses and thus they had also to join the blacks in calling for the abolition of the law on segregation in order to save their businesses. Leaders of the movement such as Martin Luther King had their homes torched by segregationists and their families threatened. The United States Supreme Court, on13th November 1956 outlawed racial segregation on buses operating within the individual states and cities. The court order was received with a lot of celebration in Montgomery on December 20, 1956, and the bus boycott ended the very next day. King did not stop there. He went ahead and met with President John F Kennedy who was also for equal rights for blacks. Unfortunately, changing the constitution to outlaw segregation by race was not that simple. Other protests were planned to push for what they believed was naturally theirs by the virtue of being a human being and an American citizen. The bus boycott had planted a seed of freedom in blacks. Since the need of the boycott, many cases wee reported where blacks were being accused of disrespecting the segregation laws or the Jim Crow’s laws as they were famously known. Other protest marches were also organized by Martin Luther and other fellow activists. The major ones being the Birmingham March, The freedom rides, The Washington march among many others (Dierenfield, 2004, pp 23). Unfortunately, the man was later to be assassinated due to his civil rights activities. Many of these subsequent marches turned violent with the local authorities and civil segregationists turning violent towards the protesters. One of the most violent march was the Birmingham march which involved children aged from 6 to 18. The local authorities used fie extinguisher hoses to chase the children out of Kelly Ingram Park where they had gathered. Many were injured and over 950 of them arrested. Jails were packed to the brim as more protests and arrests followed. The police had no other wise but to watch in despair as the marches took over the lives of everyone. Business was down and the economy of Birmingham was at a standstill. Finally, the Birmingham community had to give in. They allowed integration in the city’s eating counters and even offer equal employment services to the blacks (Boyd, 2004, pp 125). Medgar Evers This man specifically sought to have equal education rights for the blacks in America. Being a former army man during the Second World War, he felt his denial of entry at University of Mississippi Law School was race based which was not in harmony with his acceptance in the army as a full American citizen. He therefore challenged racial discrimination in education centers. The man also organized massive boycotts against gas stations that could not allow blacks and whites share restrooms (Newman, 2004, pp 164 ) Working under the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Evers had more avenues for airing his views. He therefore also organized campaigns for the blacks to be registered as voters. His attempt to have his friend admitted to the University of Mississippi attracted the intervention of the federal government after he had been denied entry on racial basis. Many interventions were to follow and more and more blacks found their way in to university. The whole process was to change on how blacks felt about themselves and even motivated them to seek integration in other areas and receive fair treatment as equal citizens with their white counterparts. Unfortunately, the man was also to be assassinated 1962 due to his involvement in the civil rights movement. However, his legacy of no violent protests and equal education rights were to be observed and remembered up to now. The culmination of all these deaths, arrests, marches and protests was the passing of the civil rights act of 1964 which outlawed racial segregation in schools, public places and employment which was introduced by President John F. Kennedy. This act was followed by the civil rights act of 1968 which criminalized discrimination in housing which had prior enforcement in the constitution (Newman, 2004, pp 165)

Essay on the Setting in Curtain of Green -- Curtain of Green Essays

The Setting in Curtain of Green      Place is one of the most distinctive factors in the development of Eudora Welty's writing and in her own evaluation of fiction in general. Welty considers setting to be a powerful tool for a writer of fiction. She sees setting as a way to provide roots for her characters and a realistic basis for her stories (Vande Kieft 8). In more general terms, Welty feels that place is so inherently important to the writing and receiving of fiction as a whole because of the set of feelings that are often associated with various places and the added realism that is gained by characters who are defined by their place (9). Welty's attitudes toward her settings are also important. Raised in Mississippi, the setting for nearly all of her stories, Welty possesses an understanding of the region, built through experience, that flourishes in her writing. Welty views setting as a vehicle through which she can provide roots for her characters (8). The union between setting and characters allows the reader to see the character in his setting, which ad...
